Housing Access For African Youth Amidst a Housing Crisis
Building Bridges with Rwanda (BBR), in collaboration with the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health at the University of Toronto, is launching an initiative to empower African youth (ages 18–26) to address these challenges. Using a participatory action approach, this project will enable youth to document their experiences, engage in meaningful dialogue with decision-makers, and advocate for systemic change at the intersection of race, climate change, and homelessness. Participants will gain skills in community organizing, research, and advocacy while collaborating to create a powerful 30-minute video that amplifies their voices and inspires actionable solutions for equitable housing access. This is a unique opportunity to tackle housing precarity and empower youth to lead transformative change in their communities.
How Rwanda Used Homegrown Solutions to Rebuild the Nation

Join us for a powerful presentation by Lama Mugabo as he shares the remarkable story of Rwanda’s recovery. Discover how Rwandans harnessed homegrown solutions and traditional knowledge—long overlooked by colonial powers—to rebuild their society, reclaim their heritage, and create a prosperous, progressive nation. This talk, originally designed for senior social work students, is open to the public. Don’t miss this inspiring event where we explore how Rwanda turned tragedy into triumph!
Kwibuka 30: Making Memory and Legacy in Rwanda
Kwibuka means to remember in Kinyarwanda and is a dominant concept used to commemorate the 1994 Genocide Against the Tutsi in Rwanda. On the 30th anniversary of the genocide, this workshop gathers an international group of scholars to examine the construction of memory and legacy. Drawing on diverse voices and perspectives, the presentations will highlight scholarly work grounded in rigorous fieldwork in the Rwandan and Great Lakes region to consider the Rwandan past and future trajectories.
